Internet Dating Scams Warning |
Internet dating scams are confidence tricks played on
singles'
feelings and desires for love and understanding, aimed at cheating
money or valuable information out of them. Such kind of frauds have
appeared long before the Internet and internet dating
services.
History knows cases when prisoners published their personals in
"men seeking men" columns and scammed enough money to buy
themselves freedom.
The problem
with internet
dating is that it makes life easier for scammers and riskier
for
honest singles. The Web swarms with frauds and scammers, impossibility
to trace the swindler and prove his guilt makes it the perfect place
for him. Internet dating
scams usually aim
at the most vulnerable singles. So usually women are the most frequent
internet dating scams' victims, as generally they are less emotionally
secure and more confiding. Christian dating sites
and gay dating sites
get to the
high-risk group too, as they naively suppose that as their communities
are less numerous and less popular they can enjoy safe web dating.
But
statistics shows that they are internet dating scams' favorites,
sensitive and trustful gays are easily cheated and fooled. The biggest
problem of the Christian community lies in their high moral values,
they believe that every member of such a dating site is bound to have a
heart as pure as theirs.
There are some traditional schemes according to which internet dating
scams work: the scammer creates a profile
of an
attractive young person, successful in business, then hooks a victim by
smart and romantic lines, takes full interest in his victim, asks lots
of questions, never answers the questions when asked as the answers are
so skillfully lost in the charming web of compliments and declarations
of love; he sends letters often and gradually make them more and more
passionate, occasionally he asks about financial status of the victim,
which doesn't seem suspicious with detailed description of his own
prosperous and wealthy life and at last when the victim is sure that
the scammer is the love of his/her life some kind of "slight financial
difficulty" arises and the victim rushes to his love's rescue.
